Day 4: December 2
Image Title: Rolling Fog over Monté Sinai
Reflector: Jeff Wallace @jeffreymiguelw
The image of mountains ties the reading from the book of Isaiah to the Gospel of Matthew for me in today’s readings. This image seems fitting for what each reading describes because mountains can be challenging to climb, but reaching the mountaintop provides us with a new view of the world around us. This is what is being offered to me through these readings, and through this Advent season: an opportunity to see the world through new eyes, ones that believe in the mystery and promise of God’s incarnation. It’s reminiscent of living in a barrio outside of Guayaquil, Ecuador for a year after college because that time of my life shifted my perspective towards believing in the impossible, mysterious majesty of God’s face in others. Yet Advent’s invitation is to walk through the night towards the light of a new world at the mountaintop, where the Lord seeks to help us believe in impossible things.
