This Sunday, the first day of Advent, our readings are about “being aware.” In Isaiah, the Israelites come to realize just how far they have wandered away from God, deafening their ear to his guidance in how to live. With all that is going on in our world right now, I can become so distracted, fearing the worst, forgetting that the light of Christ is more powerful than any darkness. This Advent, I offer my fears to Jesus one at a time, laying each at his feet. Then, I ask for his grace to re-orient my vision towards him each morning when I rise. I listening to his Word in scripture, I share how they affect my life, and I allow space to listen to his guidance as he encourages me to live like him. Thank you, Lord, for promising us that you are with us in all things! May the gift of your spirit lead me to a deeper awareness of your steady presence in my life this Advent season.
Heather is a certified Spiritual Director, the Founder of Peak Encounter Ministries: encountering God in nature through contemplative reflections and adventures! She enjoys quality time with family and friends, hiking, paddle boarding, spending time at her family’s mountain cabin, and she finds a deep privilege in accompanying others as they seek to desire a deeper relationship with Christ. She says, “I am blessed as a wife and a mother. We are a family who has been journeying this life as a special needs family – both with challenges and joys.” Heather first connected with the SRC a few years ago serving as a Spiritual Director on a @jvcnation retreat.
