In today’s first reading, we hear: “Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall; They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles’ wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint” (Is 40: 30-31). This year there have been many times to lose hope, to give up. But, God reminds us to keep the faith, to not grow weary, to open our arms wide ready to embrace the beauty and love around us, even in the midst of darkness. It is here in this embrace where we find our peace, our creative hope, our strength. In the season of Advent we actively wait with hope for light, for love. Let us be a reminder to one another of God’s love, God’s embrace.
Flannery feels joy in being a mom of two hilarious kiddos with her husband. She is humbled to serve as the Principal of Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School.
