Day 3: December 1
Reflector: Chelsea Wallace @echewallace
Image Title: Childlike Trust
These days, I spend many fretful moments in our side yard chasing after this little guy as he excitedly careens toward whatever new thing he has discovered that day. The joys of pine cones, a pile of rocks, and holiday inflatables have all caught his fancy; this day, he was captivated by the glorious red of the tree across the street. Like many, I have recently felt exhausted, disappointed, and frustrated by the challenges our country has been facing. This image resonates with the invitation I feel from God this Advent: to run with abandon towards his grace and rest-filled embrace. My prayer this Advent is that I learn to trust with the surrender of a little child, and to believe from the depths of my being that despite how things may sometimes appear, God is still creating, and everything God makes is ultimately good.
Chelsea’s life’s work and greatest joy is being partner to Jeff and mother to Daniel (18 months). Though she is a Miami, FL native, she can’t imagine being happier anywhere than their little house in Havertown. When she’s not acting like a complete goofball to make her kid laugh (best sound ever), you can find Chelsea at Holy Child School at Rosemont, teaching middle school Religion or planning liturgies and retreats.
Chelsea and Jeff were first drawn to the St. Raphaela Center when they moved here in 2017 and attended one of our beautiful Taizé services (next one is on December 9th!); they still love to sing and provide music when they can. It’s a blessing for us that Chelsea also receives spiritual direction at the Center (one of our favorite ministries that is offered in-person and virtually).
